I was really surprised to be chosen for this award. My first thought was that I hadn't done enough yet. Regardless of what club we run for, we are all part of the running community which becomes sort of a family for most of us. When I first started running road races 20 years ago, I didn't know any other runners. But gradually I recognized the same faces at these races year after year, not only running, but working at registration, on the course, etc., etc. They were the people to go to with questions and they always had the answer (or what you needed to hear). When I got more involved with running clubs, I realized how much time and effort these people put into not only their own running, but into the planning of road racing in general. The result of their devotion and love of running is the high quality of running events we have in this area, especially Mill Cities Relay. These are the people standing up here with me. I am over whelmed to be recognized by them and to be included with the people who have the answers. It is a great honor and better than any PR I could run. Thank you very much. Sharon Yu |
